Steampunk Convention Outfits by ImperialFiddlesticks Steampunk Convention Outfits by ImperialFiddlesticks
So, Robin and I attended a Steampunk Convention in the small Swedish town of Alingsås this past weekend and we had decided several months ahead that we wanted to have matching outfits. (Like we usually do.) And this is what they looked like in the end. :)

My outfit is mostly made by me. I made the dress, the coat and the hat, and then picked up accessories and things like that wherever I could find them.

Robin's outfit consists mostly out of things we bought in various places and then altered to fit. (Because I am still terrible at Men's clothing!) There was a lot of swapping plastic buttons for nice brass ones, tea-dyeing and decorating. I also made the scarf out of the same fabric as parts of my coat and the bow tie out of the same fabric as my dress. Oh and I decorated the hat too, but you can't see it too well in this picture.

I am really happy with how these outfits turned out though! I think we look pretty awesome together. :D

Your outfits are phenomenally conspicuous!!
I love the design (did you design it?)
I also love the hat and tiny details ^^

And I was just wondering if Robin was your beau or just a close friend (if you don't mind me asking of course :))

Aw, thank you so much! I designed and made my own clothes from scratch, yes. Robin's outfit is a collection of stuff we have found here and there and then put together in a way so it would match my outfit. We also made some alterations and added handmade accessories to his outfit to make it look better together. :)

Robin is most definitely my beau. :) We've been together for almost two years now. (And it's great to have someone who's willing to dress up with you! X3)

You're welcome!! you deserve it. :)
That's really cool!! I always think its nice when people are actually good enough to design their own clothes (it means they have skill).

That's nice!! :D

A gorgeous photo of what looked even better in person! The fabric choices were absolutely stellar, I must say, as was the choices for the entire ensemble of you both. Why, it brings a smile to my lips to see this and be reminded of it all. Bravo!

You two look gorgeous and so cute together ! Must have taken a lot of time though, to invent & make two matching outfits that go together so well?
Just a little advice: if I were you, I'd put a watermark/your name on the pictures. I've seen a lot of your work and your beautiful pictures (like this one) lost on Pinterest :p People often forget to credit the maker and if you repin it you have no idea who these gorgous looking people are :D And that's unfair to the maker, in this case: you :p

Haha thanks! Yeah it took a while. My coat took most of the summer to make, haha. And Robin's clothes are mostly stuff we bought already made and then edited slightly so that they would all go together. I don't dare take on mens wear as a sewing project just yet. D:

Yeaaah, I know I should do that. I just always forget, and when I don't I'm too lazy to do it. :P I'll try to make sure to do it from now on though.
(It would all be much easier if people were decent and credited the creators, huh? :P)

Ahhh the old and trusty 'buy and pimp it up' technique :D It's just not worth the effort to make something new for every event, because you wear it twice and then you feel you should already make something new xD (that's how it usually goes with me anyway and I assume I'm not the only one :p) So long live accessories B-)

You're right, that would be so much easier xD not crediting the picture is quite disrespectful to all the hard work someone's put into it =/ And if you only find pictures labeled "pretty steampunk clothes" instead of the maker's name & website, nobody is able to find the person's Etsy/portfolio/whatever. Argh, the many joys of internet :D

It's just easier when it comes to mens wear. For my own outfits I always sew something new. XD I can't help myself. But when it comes to Robin's it saves me a lot of trouble to have him buy things that I can change the fit on, swap out the buttons and then accessorize with the appropriate things. (In this case I especialy loves his scarf that's made out of the same upholstery fabric that I used in my coat).
Besides, Steampunk is usually all about the accessories. XD

Ah well, people will be people. I'm usually pretty tolerant when it comes to things like this. Sure, it'd be good if they credited me but it's also nice that people like my work well enough to share it. When they try to steal the credit themselves, however.... *Angry face*

Yes, the upholstery/scarf is a nice detail that ties everything together so well :D You look very beautiful and cute together :giggle:

Ooh I can imagine that must be SO frustrating! Apparantly it happens all the time that people steel someone else's creations, hope they never tried it with you yet? =/

Thanks <3 :D

It's happened a long time ago, but not lately - at least not what I've been able to find out. I''ve also had people take a picture of me and create a profile on LJ pretending that they were me. >.> That was not very nice.

Yuck, that sound quite creepy-ish =/ I really don't get why people pretend to be someone else, are their own lives SO incredibly boring they feel they should imitate someone that makes pretty stuff :o

I don't know what they hope to gain from it or what made em do it, but eh. It's tiring.

It's amazing, you two look like noble wisards from some fantasy movie, like the chronicles of narnia, I really loved both your clothes, and that top hat and the scarf... oh I would love to have one of each
